taking them for granted
we’re too busy to see
things they do for us
so we can travel safe and free
seeing what is best
they unselfishly provide
while simply at our end
we know we haven’t tried

the outflow is greater than
what they usually receive
yet their hearts are all set
to forget and to forgive
their kindness is limitless
their intentions are pure
but we keep on hurting them
when our minds are not so sure

the cycle continues
the pattern is the same
they lit the flame
we lose the game
looking for diversions
the path is to pass the blame
when we are on the edge
it’s time to call their name

it’s not yet too late
there’s still time to give back
get our acts together
though we fell off the track
they are still hoping
for us to clearly see
all that they want to share
is what’s best for you and me
