DARK POETRY

“Everyone is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody.” Mark Twain

light is projected
reflecting a virtuous life
but hidden from within
a hand’s holding a butcher’s knife
piety is proclaimed
using a borrowed testimony
the lips may speak of love
but the soul drowns in hypocrisy

hell is lurking
behind that sinful smile
a likeness is complete
while the psyche is juvenile
the rhymes we make
display a sacred prophecy
but the truth that is unseen
is our own dark poetry
